Hopkins trailer wiring harnesses and 7-way to 4-flat adapters
Hopkins Manufacturing builds towing electrical in Emporia, Kansas and is known for its Plug-In Simple! vehicle harnesses and Endurance connectors. Nearly everything here is custom wiring: harnesses that plug into a truck's factory taillight or tow-package connector and bring out a trailer plug without splicing. The vehicle tags are older than most of our towing catalogue, which is the point. A 2003 Tundra, a 2000 Dodge Ram or a 1998 Tacoma may have no current listing elsewhere, but Hopkins still covers it.

Multi-tow 7:4 harnesses
For trucks that already have a factory 7-blade socket. The Multi-tow plugs into it and provides both a 7-way RV blade and a 4-flat in one housing, so the same truck can tow a camper with brakes one day and a utility trailer the next. Toyota Tundra and Dodge Ram versions are listed.

Choosing the right Hopkins harness
Start at the back of the truck. A factory 7-blade socket calls for a Multi-tow 7:4 or, if the socket itself is damaged, the combo socket with bracket. No trailer wiring at all calls for the vehicle-specific harness that plugs into the taillight connectors. Check the model years: Hopkins splits the Tundra into 2003-2006 and 2007-2013 versions because the factory connector changed. If your trailer has electric brakes, a 4-flat is not enough; you will need a 7-way and a brake controller from the Tekonsha collection. It is a plug-in harness for trucks with a factory 7-blade RV socket that provides both a 7-way and a 4-flat connector in one housing. You keep the 7-way for a camper or trailer with brakes and gain a 4-flat for utility trailers without carrying an adapter.
My truck has a factory 7-way but my trailer has a 4-flat plug. What do I need?
Either a 7-way to 4-flat adapter that plugs into the existing socket, or a Multi-tow 7:4 harness that adds a permanent 4-flat outlet. The adapter is the quick fix; the Multi-tow is tidier if you tow 4-flat trailers regularly.
Do I need a converter with a trailer wiring harness?
Only if the vehicle uses separate brake and turn-signal circuits, as most import cars and many newer trucks do. The product page for each Hopkins harness says whether a converter is built in; domestic pickups with a factory tow package usually do not need one.
Does Hopkins make brake controllers?
Yes, the Agility, Reliance and InSIGHT, but they are not in this collection at the moment. The brake controllers we stock are in Tekonsha; hitches are in Trailer Hitches & Wiring.
